The Gazette reports Iowa City ranked second for Airbnb stays in the state this year. Des Moines led with about 11 300 guest arrivals, while Cedar Rapids ranked sixth with 1 910. About 60 000 people used Airbnb in Iowa, and 1 100 local hosts earned roughly 5.8 million in income in 2017.
Roger Christian and his wife Chris will close University Camera, a landmark in downtown Iowa City since 1970. The shop, once Fryout's Leather Goods, occupies a space built around 1868 to 1870 and faced rising online competition, ending decades of serving as a high service photo store in 1,000 square feet.
Roger Christian, owner and president of University Camera at 4 S. Dubuque St, Iowa City, plans to close doors after April 15. The shop, a long time imaging center, will decommission its mini-lab by January 15 and sell equipment as it ends operations after nearly three decades of service.
