Govt Loans On Grain May Total Billion
AP The government tied up more than 600 million dollars in price support programs for 1948 grain crops by November 30. Most of this was loans to farmers. the rest was a government promise to buy grain later. By December 1, 342,243,122 bushels were under support, including 253,393,000 bushels of wheat. Officials foresee support may exceed 1 billion. The department also bought 9,871,728 bushels of wheat and other grains for shortage areas abroad, totaling 256,471,000 bushels since last July 1.
