Marion relatives learned of the death of Jack Woodward of Santa Ana California after a several month illness. He was born in Marion January 5 1885 the son of Mark and Mary Woodward and graduated from Marion High School in 1905. He moved to California years ago to work in contracting. He is survived by his wife formerly Ula Truthall a son John Philip a brother Mark Woodward and two sisters Mrs J A Beeson and Mrs Albert Bragg. Funeral services are set for Thursday in Santa Ana. He last visited Marion in 1918.

William Rettenmayer, 55, a lifelong Iowa City resident, was found with a gunshot wound in a city park. Investigators believe he took his own life Tuesday evening, using a revolver, as a inquest returned a verdict of death by own action due to despondency. He was last seen by L. L. Cicero Percival Aldrich aged 93 longtime Fairview resident on the old military road between Springville and Anamosa died at 10 p.m. Tuesday. The last survivor of the once thriving village recalled wagon traffic to Dubuque and daily stagecoaches. Surviving daughter Mrs. George Cusher, five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral at Fairview church Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. L C Smith officiating. Burial in Wilcox cemetery.

Mount Vernon Fire Chief Ray Rupert Dies in Iowa Hospital
Ray Rupert 46 of Mount Vernon died early Wednesday in a Cedar Rapids hospital from pneumonia. A native of Lisbon, he served three years as Mount Vernon fire chief and spent his life in the area. Survived by wife and daughter Mrs. John Hayes, funeral arrangements not yet made.

North English Couple Celebrate Sixtieth Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. William Blotz celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary at a family dinner in North English. Attending were their children Joe Blotz of Council Bluffs, Clarence Blotz of Indianola, and Howard Blotz of Topeka Kansas. A daughter Mrs. James Dailey of Des Moines could not attend.

Senator Stewart Sued for $15,000 in Fatal Car Crash
West Union K V Turner as Cedar Rapids administrator of Eleanor Turner estate sues Senator Paul P Stewart for 15000 damages in Fayette county over a Center Point crash on August 15 that killed Eleanor Turner 22. The petition alleges high speed and failure to yield. Stewart and his wife were en route to the All Iowa fair. Stewart is a noted Holstein breeder and state senator from the Allamakee Fayette district.

Man Jailed At Vinton After Attack On Girls
At the John Losenicky service station near Vinton two sisters Mary 21 and Nellie 14 were attacked by Andrew Layden. Layden, described as intoxicated and later held in the county jail, fought off four men before being subdued. He faced arraignment on intoxication and a pending more serious charge.
