Cedar Rapids sanitation crews will collect Christmas trees curbside in January as part of yard waste service. Trees must be cut into 3 foot sections unflocked undeorated and placed next to trash and recycling containers. Wreaths and garland up to 4 feet may be set at the curb or left at the landfill. Decorations stands and bags must be removed.
Luther to host new FoodCorps program in Decorah
Luther College and the Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative will host FoodCorps participants as the AmeriCorps program launches in 2011 12. They will garden educate about nutrition and Farm to School activities in schools with high obesity risk and limited healthy food access. Local leader Jon Jensen notes the program expands reach to youth through hands on projects.
