Luxury buyers trade down as 2009 end nears
Wealthier shoppers trickle back to showrooms but favor smaller BMW and Mercedes models or top end cars from cheaper brands. About 14 percent of luxury buyers chose brands outside the traditional high end, up from 4 percent in 2006, with Buick and Hyundai poised as beneficiaries. Buick LaCrosse and Hyundai Genesis cited as value luxury options, while overall luxury sales remain down about 27 percent year to date.
