Vinton Seeks to Restore Historic Rail Freight Building
In Vinton, an abandoned 1876 wood freight house along Eighth Avenue, once part of the Burlington Cedar Rapids & Northern Railway, survives as the town’s lone remaining wooden freight structure. Historian Scott Hansen notes its rarity, its later Rock Island use, and unclear post-1970s purpose, with grease pencil messages inside hinting at past railroad workers or hoboes.
