Miami girl undergoes pioneering heart repair to aid lungs
Six year old Ashley Phillips, born with a complex heart defect, survived a high risk procedure in Miami Children’s Hospital. Surgeons used a video guided catheter to reopen the artery to the right lung, enabling normal blood flow and offering new hope for cardiac surgery. Her recovery surpassed expectations and her mother called it a Christmas wish. Doctors Redmond Burke and Evan Zahn led the team, combining surgery and interventional techniques to save her life.
