A study in JAMA reports school based death by own action prevention programs show little evidence of reducing attempts and may have unwanted effects. Among 973 ninth and tenth graders, 63 with prior attempts participated, 524 exposure led to more belief that suicide is a solution and less willingness to seek help. Nonparticipants showed no significant attitude change.
