A Christmas Eve through New Year period has seen no deaths Monday and Christmas Day, though one crash on Christmas killed Harry Schlotfeldt, 53, of Muscatine, who died Tuesday from injuries near Oskaloosa. The couple’s 30 second wedding anniversary would have been Tuesday. Schlotfeldt’s car collided with a vehicle driven by James Love of Jackson Nebraska. Love was fined 25 dollars for failing to stop at an intersection. Two sailors from Boone escaped with minor injuries. Earlier victims include Lena Copp, 23, Bristow, and Thomas A Lohmann, 20, Burlington, both killed in separate crashes.

The truck reportedly braked hard and skidded into a parked car.
