Seven Weekend Traffic Deaths in Iowa Report
Seven people died in Iowa during the Christmas weekend including two infants and a nine month old. A Des Moines baby Thomas Barnes died after being hurled from his mother’s arms through a windshield. Nine others were injured in a four car crash on Highway 64 northeast of Des Moines. Additional fatalities include a 13 year old in a midget auto crash near Griswold and Omar King 56 in Centerville from a Christmas Eve wreck. The weekend total trails last year’s eight deaths.

Rock Island Streamliner Crashes Into Freight Near Lineville
The Rock Island Imperial bound from Chicago to Kansas City rear ended a stalled westbound freight two miles east of Lineville, Iowa. Five aboard the Imperial were hospitalized including Engineer J. H. Cordes and Fireman William Chrisman. 25 passengers treated on site for cuts and sprains. The diesel flipped and caught fire while several cars left the track. victims and witnesses described a high speed impact amid near zero cold as emergency crews responded. The line was reopened toward Seymour and Kansas City via Milwaukee road after the wreck.

Another Iowan Dies Of Wounds in Korea
The defense department announced that one Iowan died of wounds from Korea while two were wounded and a fourth listed as missing in action. Private Marvin W. Tibbits of Mason City died of wounds. Cpl. Eight Injured In Car Crash Near Here
Eight youths were injured early Tuesday when a car driven by Loren Hennig of Elkader left highway 13 four miles north, struck a service pole and toppled. Dave Christensen of Elkader suffered a fractured vertebra and was taken to Oelwein hospital. Others escaped with minor injuries: Leslie Klink Ann Hamilton Prudence Meder Audrey Meyer Douglas Klink and a Miss Vanderstop. The group had been en route to Elkader after a dance in Oelwein.
