Snow and plummeting temperatures hit Iowa as a new frigid wave loomed. Spirit Lake tumbled from 32 above to two above, Sioux City fell to zero, Waterloo dropped to 8 above, and Cedar Rapids saw steady 20 above to zero as a blustery storm moved in. The weather bureau warned of much colder weather Tuesday night and Wednesday, while the Iowa Motor Vehicle Department mobilized road patrols to aid stranded motorists and enforce cautious speeds.

Chicago fire claimed a man and woman. a Madison Minnesota farmer died. a four year old girl died from burns in San Diego California.

Barbara Uchytl Uchy, bedridden and nearly blind, has spent decades in the hospital since leaving home and family. The radio gift arrives courtesy of The Standard Tire Company, easing Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for the pair and for student nurses and staff.

Washington AP report says the house military committee found war department officials failed to protect government interests in collecting 59 cents from the Mercur corporation which runs an $11 million army base in Newark New Jersey The committee calls for strict accounting in the courts while the justice department nears completion of its separate study The Mercur corporation formed with 5000 paid in capital received a 1926 contract to operate the property earning the government 90 percent of net profit By Dec 31 1933 Mercur total receipts from storage and services exceeded 4 5 million with only 59 cents of that $8 contributed by Mercur and the rest paid from funds belonging to the United States
Carl Ludwig, engineer of the second locomotive on a Big Four holiday special, was found slumped over the throttle with a fractured skull and broken nose as the train entered Linndale at 60 mph. Fireman Joseph Creed reported seeing Ludwig looking from the cab window just before arrival. The cap was missing after crews searched five miles for it. no blood stains were found on semaphore arms or mail arms.
A large barn on the Lester Kern farm three and a half miles southwest of Blairstown burned at noon Tuesday. Calves, a recently purchased horse for 125 dollars, a stallion, hay, and shredded corn fodder were lost. The fire began in the hay mow. cause unknown. Insurance partly covers the loss.
