Iowa plans to close Gender and American Studies departments
The University of Iowa moves to shutter the 50 year old Department of Gender, Women's and Sexuality Studies and the Department of American Studies. A plan to form a new School of Social and Cultural Analysis would merge programs across African American, Latino, Native and Jewish studies with new majors. Dean Sara Sanders says the change aims to reposition these programs for the future as DEI laws take effect.
