G. R. man escapes work-release facility in Iowa

Joseph D. Dahlen of Cedar Rapids failed to return Wednesday to the Coralville Hope House work-release facility while serving a 10 year sentence for second degree robbery tied to a March 19 2003 Bever Avenue SE incident. Dahlen is described as a 30 year old black man 5 feet 6 inches tall 180 pounds with tattoos. Police ask for information at 319 248 1800 or Johnson County Sheriff 319 356 6030.

Weather gloom for Iowa pheasant habitat and winters

Hunter Mike Bergman of Mount Vernon says his 240 acre Linn County farm shows a 65 percent pheasant drop over three years due to cold snowy winters and wet springs. State climatologist Hillaker notes December was colder and snowier than normal, predicting a fifth straight snowy and fourth straight cold winter, hindering pheasant recovery.
