Fire causes mattress to be tossed from hotel window

A Cedar Rapids Allison Hotel room fire on a Wednesday afternoon left one mattress missing from the bed. Firefighters reported the mattress ignited by a cigarette and pushed through a fifth floor window toward Fourth Street tracks. Damage remained in the room and to the mattress.

Center Junction Man Charged With Prohibited Acts

Man fired for arguing denied jobless benefits

Cedar Rapids man James R. Anderson was dismissed by Nissen Corp last July for arguing with a female employee. The Iowa Department of Job Service appeals board upheld a prior decision finding he did not deserve jobless benefits, citing the on site incident and prior warnings about bringing personal matters to the plant.
