Abortion funding posture sparks church debate in New York
The National Council of Churches says it has not taken a formal stance on abortion as a right but urges non discrimination in public funding for abortions. It asks that a Supreme Court guaranteed right apply equally to all regardless of economic status. Eastern Orthodox delegates oppose the action but the president rules the issue as applying the Court decision to all citizens.
