DES MOINES UP I – Des Moines area officers seized restraining orders on 18 massage parlors and adult bookstores in a civil action led by Iowa Attorney General Richard Turner. District Judge Harry Arkins issued the orders after Turner filed suits accusing the venues of operating as fronts for prostitution and Leudness. hearings set for January 7.

Christmas Tree Tradition Continues in Keota Homestead
Grace Parke hosts a 65 year old Christmas tree first shown at a Kinross business and later in her home. In 1910 Grace Shafer began the tale by asking Eckerman to buy a window tree for the store, paying a dime, used four years. After her 1914 marriage to Jess Parke, Eckerman gave the tree to them, and it has lit Grace Parke's home every Christmas since. The tiny table tree remains candlelit as in old times.

Plans Rejected for Iowa City High Rise
Iowa City city officials announced HUD has rejected Old Capitol Associates proposed 62 subsidized and 38 non subsidized unit high rise planned for Court and Dubuque streets citing a location change. Reprimand Issued Over Teacher Pay Memo in Iowa
An Iowa Employment Security Commission employee was reprimanded for issuing a memo stating teachers would be eligible for unemployment benefits during Christmas recess. Commission members say no formal action is yet planned against John Peters, director of the claims division, while Gov. Ray’s office was not a factor in the decision. In Colesburg, Square Masonic lodge members voted to consolidate with Constellation lodge at Colesburg and installed new officers ahead of January meeting.
