Christmas on the DEW Line Offers Arctic Festivities Across 6000 Miles
AP Special Correspondent Hugh Mulligan chronicles Christmas on the DEW Line from Greenland to the Aleutians. Dozens of stations, Eskimo villages, and international crews share tree lightings, gift deliveries, and festive meals aboard the remote radar network. Santa travels by snowmobile and C-54 while locals and airmen mark the holiday with dances, prayers, and communal cheer.
