First asbestos tests come back clean from Sinclair fire
Family Environmental Compliance Services collected air samples Dec. 16 near the former meatpacking plant at 1600 Third St. SE and at their Cherry Building office in New Bohemia. The results, released Tuesday, were well below the EPA’s .01 fibers per cubic centimeter clearance level, indicating no asbestos in the smoke plume. Firefighters could not enter the burning complex on day one, and officials warned the blaze could burn for another week as further testing proceeds.
