Iowa City police report a dramatic rise in meth production inside city limits with more lab arrests than in previous years. Detective Chris Akers notes convenience drives in-town cooking and cites growing urban meth activity.
Akers of the Johnson County Narcotics Task Force notes fewer meth arrests but more crack cocaine cases. Over the last year seven meth labs were busted, four active, with two in Iowa City apartments and one in a Coralville hotel. More than 22 pounds of meth were seized in three months, including 19 pounds of imported meth found in October at Southside Mini Storage.
