Waterloo standoff ends with man captured suicide threat

A seven hour Waterloo standoff with Frank Dougherty 50 ended when a counselor allowed entry and Dougherty was seized. Officers found a .25 caliber pistol by his bed and a shotgun on the floor. Dougherty was taken to the Mental Health Institute in Independence.

Lake City man killed in farm accident

Albert Young age 67 of Lake City Iowa was killed when a 1000 pound bale of hay fell on him as he moved it with a tractor on his west central Iowa farm. His wife found him after he failed to return to the house.
