Lambs Gain Faster Out Of Fleeces On Mt Vernon Farm
A six-shearer crew and two helpers moved to Ted Stinger’s farm north of Mt Vernon to shear 2 700 feeder lambs on contract for the Dubuque Packing Co. The operation features Montana lambs, 80 pounds each, with wool left at about a half inch. Lambs gain faster after shearing and begin a feeding sequence designed to push top lambs toward slaughter by late February.

1967 Farm Outlook Sees Improved Income Then Decline From 1966
The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago projects 1967 net farm income will be below the near record 1966 level but higher than any year in the prior decade. Cash receipts from marketing should stay strong due to high prices and larger marketings, while government payments drop and expenses rise. Bankers are urged to watch crop expansion, credit demand, and rising equipment costs as deposits trend upward. Per capita pork consumption is estimated at 58 pounds in 1980, down from 64.5 pounds in 1964.

The article notes U.S. wheat reserves have fallen to their lowest in years as the government seeks expanded production. The 1967 winter and spring allotments were set at 32 percent with hopes of a 22 percent production rise, while critics warn insufficient 1967 payments may reduce seedings. The winter crop rose 26.2 percent, beating private forecasts of 20–22 percent.
