Washington AP reported a clash between Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt led to the abandonment of a proposed joint commission on war debts and allied issues. Roosevelt refused joint responsibility and Hoover planned to defer action until after March 4, with no immediate changes to international discussions. Hoover will take a fishing trip off the Florida-Georgia coast, delaying big decisions about debts disarmament and the world economy conference.
Noble Spillman, 38, was jailed in Cedar Rapids on a federal charge of illegal transportation of intoxicating liquor. Federal Prohibition Agent R. H. Taylor arrested him after Spillman stopped in front of the agent's car. About one and a half gallons of alleged alcohol were found. Spillman was released Thursday morning on a $500 bond after arraignment before US Commissioner D. C. Hutchinson.
Three victims died when a 14 car Erie train derailed on a split switch east of Lima Ohio. The wreck demolished a watchman’s tower and rolled down a 10 foot embankment. Dead are watchman Charles Aldridge 52 and engineer Earl R Swibart 78 plus fireman Court Scott 40 of Huntington Indiana.
In Chicago a robber known as William Nydick was shot and killed in a hotel room after his wife Arlene tipped police. Detective Sergeant Harry Miller led the raid as Nydick tore a warrant and reached for a weapon. The case ties to the Fidelity Loan bank gem holdup and to associates including Cleveland figures.
Paris AP reports the chamber backed Premier Joseph Paul Boncour 365 to 215 in a confidence vote. He pledged continued talks with the United States on debt settlement but urged caution until a new Washington administration takes power, outlining that France seeks to revise terms while avoiding immediate payment.

Thomas Eckler 42, local jacksmith and former convict, was arrested on charges of breaking and entering the Buchanan County treasurer’s safe. He confessed to cracking the safe on Sept 27, taking 1002 dollars and placing dynamite that exploded, damaging the room. He admitted prior bank work and said a recent money order haul aided his capture.
Guy Davin a 26 year old Frenchman was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Rich on Wall an American resident of Paris in Versailles France.
In Washington the House beer bill moved into the Senate with Senator Hiram Bingham pledging to substitute the 3.2 percent measure for quicker action. Senator Borah denounced the plan as betrayal of the Constitution, and leaders projected the bill would clear committees after the holidays with limited hearings. He warned 3.2 percent beer is intoxicating and would not meet the expected revenue.
