Iowa K-12 funding battle prompts ethics complaint and lawsuit
The Gazette reports Education Department Director Ryan Wise filed an ethics complaint against Davenport Superintendent Art Tate after a review found over 20 million in reserves was misused. The piece notes a decades old state funding formula fuels disparities, with Davenport claiming losses of 17 million over five years and 3.2 million this year. A Davenport lawyer, daughter of a former school board president, filed the state lawsuit Monday. The editorial urges lawmakers to overhaul the 1970s formula and to provide timely funding.
