Teen birth trends show decline since peak in 1957

A CDC report notes births fell to 4.1 million in 2009, with teen births near 96 per 1000 in 1957. The decline continues into mid-2009, linked partly to weaker immigration and job losses. The Cesarean rate rose to 33 percent while preterm births fell to about 12 percent. Hispanics still show highest teen birth rate at 70 per 1000 in 2009.
