Eastern Front Korea AP reports U S Marines issued vapor barrier rubber boots to prevent frostbite. The Mickey Mouse shaped boots, tested to 20 below, keep feet warm by trapping body heat despite moisture, with one complaint they are hot and heavy.
Agnes Farrens wife of Dell Farrens lifelong Toddville resident died in a Cedar Rapids hospital at 3 45 am after a long illness She was born June 16 1908 near Toddville Surviving are her husband a daughter Dolores her mother Mrs Hannah Erickson three sisters and a brother Services will be held at the Free Methodist church Toddville at 2 pm Monday conducted by the Rev Mr Martin Burial will be in Dunkard cemetery Friends may call at the Turner chapel
Perry A Peterson 82 a Cedar Rapids resident for over 40 years died at a local nursing home. Services were scheduled for 3 30 p m Saturday at Turner Chapel with Rev Ralph Colton of Sinclair Memorial Church officiating. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery. He was born January 9 1869 in Humboldt Michigan and survived by two sons Chester A Peterson Des Moines and Harvey Peterson Augusta Georgia and two grandchildren.
Edward Roy Woods died Thursday at 321 I Avenue NW. Services set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Rohn chapel conducted by Rev. D. Keith Irwin. Burial in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
Carroll R Darringer of 86 Seventh Avenue SW started a four month county jail sentence after the court revoked his suspended term for a burglary guilty plea on Oct 27 Cedar Rapids detectives said he violated the good behavior clause two weeks earlier and the court ordered the sentence served. He allegedly contributed to the delinquency of a 14 year old girl by taking her on a car trip.
Anna Darragh filed suit against Anthony Homolka seeking 4000 dollars for damage to a three-lot Cedar Rapids property and requesting a receiver be appointed to manage the home. The petition notes a life interest held by Homolka since a 1943 deed. A hearing on the receiver appointment is set for 10 a.m. January 5.
Elizabeth Dagley, 57, a former Cedar Rapids schoolteacher, posted a $1000 bond and was released from Linn County Jail. Her attorney says she will be sent to a private facility for mental illness treatment after being charged with writing a $120 false check in Cedar Rapids on May 26. Dagley was extradited from Texas last month to face the charge.
A resident at 326 Fourteenth Street SE says Richard Primrose does not live there. Primrose listed that address while at the county jail Wednesday. A personal injury suit by Wend Panek against Bus Freight Lines Inc and Ralph Knolk has been dismissed.
The Gates Rubber Company was awarded a judgment of 2799.98 dollars in an account suit after Leslie Dulin failed to appear in court. The suit was filed July 12 1951.
The United Nations General Assembly cut the U S portion of 1952 U N costs from 38.92 to 36.90 percent but rejected a larger cut. The assembly set a total budget of 48.1 million dollars with the U S assessment at 17.75 million while 40 members voted for the measure and five Soviet bloc states opposed. Russia’s share rose to 11.49 percent despite protest over dollars and trade barriers.

Frank L Kilberger 67 of 123 Sixteenth Avenue SW was found guilty in police court of disobeying a train flagman signal on Navy 14. Judge William J Matias imposed a $3 fine, totaling $11.40 with costs. Kilberger and his wife Grace 66 were hospitalized after their car was struck by a switch engine on Fourth Street tracks at Fifth Avenue SE.
Fire Friday at the International Milling Company in Davenport could cost as much as 250000. Chief engineer R W Jones said the 150 foot structure was cracking under pressure after base sections crumbled. A separate item notes the city of Spirit Lake naming Jerry Kelly as police chief starting January 1, replacing J H Lindquist. Two U S air force pilots dove a British Canberra bomber during a test flight near Centreville Maryland One pilot Maj Harry M Lester of Baltimore survived with injuries while the second pilot died as the aircraft exploded A Royal Air Force crew had earlier flown the Canberra across the Atlantic setting an unofficial record The aircraft was based at Glenn L Martin near Baltimore for U S modification work
London reports quote a British informant saying the government believes an armistice will be reached in Korea with no major principle blocking UN and Communist negotiators. The informant cited official Tokyo reports and suggested other UN nations share the view.
President Truman's cabinet said Santa Claus is a pretty good fellow after a cabinet meeting. They stated the corruption program was not discussed and noted the session also covered world conditions.
Donald G. Wiseman, 25, of Marion, was fined in police court Saturday for dumping rubbish on Memorial drive SE near McCarthy road in Cedar Rapids. He did not appear in court. attorney Ted Ruffin entered a guilty plea. Judge William J. Matias set the fine at 50 dollars plus costs and suspended 35 dollars on good behavior.
Central City churches will host Christmas programs this Sunday with Jordan's Grove at 7 30 p m and Waubeek at 8 p m The Federated church choir plans the cantata Lord of All at 8 p m in North English the Methodist church Sunday school will resume and present a Christmas program at 7 30 p m
The toy exchange for underprivileged children at Sunshine Mission will be open Monday announced by Rev. Frank Ward. Toys are given to families cleared through cooperating welfare groups. Families were informed by letter. the extension was due to late letters and a bus strike preventing some families from reaching the Mission by Saturday.
City notes report Pfc Victor Pell Holec on a 10 day furlough from Camp Gordon Georgia visiting his parents at 409 Twentieth Street NE. Three Cedar Rapids men were fined for drunkenness in police court Saturday morning. Ralph M. Wittengl, 36, was arrested in the 100 block of Third avenue SW after a fight following a dispute in a nearby club. Jess R. Douglas, 48, was picked up after entering the wrong house through a rear door about a block from his home. Jerry J. Cuhel, 28, had $25 of his $50 fine suspended on good behavior for racing a car stuck in a snow bank on First avenue E.
White House Press Secretary Joseph Short labeled portions of a Sigma Delta Chi resolution as a detestable slander for linking President Truman's executive order on classified information to totalitarian regimes. The Chicago convention resolution urged rescission, while Sigma Delta Chi defended the measure as a safeguard for national security and freedom of information.
