Iowa Supreme Court allows guns in some courthouse public areas
A new supervisory order by Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady lets counties seek to permit firearms on floors of courthouses that are not wholly occupied by court operations. The change could affect Woodbury County in Sioux City, where gun policy has long stirred debate, while Johnson and Linn counties report no changes. The order preserves prohibitions where courtrooms remain, and requires written county board requests to modify limits. Sheriff and county officials acknowledge compliance but some plan to keep existing security measures.
