EPA to require cut in pollution from big trucks
The EPA will require heavy duty trucks and buses to reduce tailpipe emissions by 90 percent starting in 2007. New engines and sulfur free diesel fuel from 2006 will achieve over 90 percent reductions in nitrogen oxide and diesel particulate matter, though replacement of older trucks will take years. Environmentalists hailed the rule despite questions from oil companies and manufacturers about feasibility.
