Chaos erupted as Chamber of Deputies President Bucciarelli Ducci struggled to restore order when a fascist shouted at the Communists. Ushers formed a barrier and the presiding official shouted for obedience. A list of traffic fines followed, including multiple residents fined for speeding, license issues, and disobeying signals.
Police traced getaway vehicles to Utah residents who checked into a Milwaukee motel over the weekend. He also works with O Rieley and Rosser with duties advising the county board and handling non criminal suits. A separate municipal case reports Forde accused of damaging pool cues and a towel cabinet at Mays City Lanes. Forde held in county jail.
Judge William Eads of Linn District Court rejects Doerflein's habeas corpus petition citing lack of jurisdiction. Doerflein, jailed 25 years after a 1961 Linn County trial, sought appointment of counsel and freedom. He must file in Lee County where the penitentiary is located. earlier Iowa Supreme Court appeals were dismissed.
David Forde, 17, of route two, Mr. Vernon, pled guilty in Linn district court to larceny of a motor vehicle. Judge Warren Rees set sentencing for 10 a.m. next Monday. The theft involved two cars Wednesday night at May's City with one registered to D. Duane Peyton. Peyton's car was recovered Thursday with windshield removed and dash components pried. Four other youths were questioned. no charges filed. A separate count accused him of malicious damage to a building.
Three Cedar Rapids residents sue to block use of road use tax funds for the Cedar Valley expressway. The Linn District Court hearing before Judge B J Maxwell began at 9 15 a m with five exhibits including a Sept 30 1963 city council resolution authorizing an engineering study.
Joseph and Alicin Kadlec of Kadlec Brothers Studebaker in Cedar Rapids sue Leonard Becker for 9854.33 alleging Becker drove a 1955 car into a center post on February 18 at 1 40 p.m. causing roof damage and loss of use. They seek 8854.33 for repairs and 1000 for loss of use.
Paul Milton Brauer Jr., 25, of 716 First Street SW, was fined $300 and costs by Judge B J Maxwell after pleading guilty to drunk driving. Brauer was arrested December 13 at the junction of highways 13 and 64, east of Marion.
Harry J. Behrens of Cedar Rapids received a five year state penitentiary sentence at Ft. Madison after pleading guilty to larceny before Judge William Eads The term runs concurrently with a prior larceny sentence from Hardin County.
Behrens was returned from the penitentiary to Cedar Rapids to face a charge of stealing $80 from Arthur Rasmussen in Cedar Rapids.
Eight inches of new snow buried ranch country as cattle froze from ice on nostrils and mouths. North Dakota Governor William Guy convened civil defense with the National Guard and highway officials to aid stranded ranchers. Some areas declared disasters as back roads stayed blocked and airlifts planned to deliver hay.
Havana radio reported that three CIA agents were executed for crimes against Cuba's integrity and stability. It named the victims Ricardo Ulloa Olivera Daniel Montero Camalier and Desiderio Valladares and said others were sentenced to prison terms of one to thirty years.
Earl Ralph Eckard, formerly of Duluth Minnesota, died Sunday after a brief illness. Born March 9 1888 in Mansalona Michigan, he married Mae Threadgall in 1913. Surviving children include Robert and Stewart Eckard and others. ten grandchildren. Funeral services planned in Duluth and Tama with Rosaries Monday night.
Mrs May Miller 88 of 1345 B Avenue NW Cedar Rapids died Sunday after a lingering illness born May 28 1876 in Clinton she lived in Cedar Rapids about 45 years Surviving son Edward Perryman of Chicago sister Mrs Fred Baltes of Milwaukee and two grandchildren Two sons preceded her in death Rosary Monday 8 p.m. at Rohn funeral home. Burial Linwood Cemetery. Service at St Patrick Church conducted by Rev J Robert Mac Donald.
Six men tied together after storming a church rectory ten miles west of New York City. They overpowered priests and guard and fled with bags of paper money while coins remained in an unlocked safe. Roadblocks were set to seal escape routes from the scene.
Harriet Talley 91 of Whittier California widow of Edwin Talley and former Cedar Rapids resident died Saturday after a long illness. Survived by daughters Naomi Hurdle Whit tier Lillian Hahn St. Louis and Mrs R J Schlie kelman Des Moines. sons Wilbur Whit tier Robert Moravia California and John L Cedar Service and burial set for Tuesday in Whittier.
Mrs James McKinney Mary McKinney, 87, Cedar Rapids resident for the last 18 years, died Sunday morning after a long illness. She was born March 1, 1877 in Tama and was the widow of James McKinney. Surviving is a daughter.
A Hong Kong student, James Allen Wong, 27, was bound over to Johnson County District Court on a charge of releasing tear gas inside a University of Iowa classroom building. Bond set at $250. Police said Wong, 5 ft 2 in, 130 lb, claimed the tear gas pencil was for protection and he was arrested after witnesses reported him releasing gas in an East Hall office.
President Johnson held a tight budget cutting review at his Texas ranch with Labor Secretary Wirtz Interior Secretary Udall Commerce Secretary Hodges and John Connor named to replace Hodges after retirement. Also present Budget Director Gordon and Dr. Hornig. They planned to fly back to Washington Monday.
A 12 year old Cedar Rapids boy was arrested for tipping a memorial marker at Linwood Cemetery. Two companions, 11 and 13, were questioned but not involved. He rolled the marker downhill while they were in the cemetery picking pine cones. The marker broke on impact. he was released to his parents and police noted no link to prior vandalism sprees.
