Vitamin D Linked To Lower MS Risk In Military Study

A large study of over 7 million people shows white U S military members with high vitamin D blood levels had 62 percent lower MS risk than those with low levels. Blacks and Hispanics showed no link. Researchers caution this is not proof of causation and pills cannot yet be recommended.

Investigators say a maintenance worker intentionally cut power moments before a furnace repair at a Missouri group home. The fire killed 10 people on November 27. State fire marshal report cites possible electrical short in makeshift wiring. no arson suspected.

Man who killed trooper gets life without parole

Ralph Bucky Phillips, 44, who admitted killing Trooper Joseph Longo and wounding two others during New York’s largest manhunt, was sentenced in Chautauqua County Court to life in prison without parole. He had pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and attempted murder and apologized to the troopers’ families.

Cobb County Board drops evolution sticker case

The Cobb County Public School Board settled a four year dispute over stickers in high school biology books stating evolution is a theory not a fact. The board agrees not to use any similar warnings and to support science teaching. Parents who sued end their litigation.

A 2005 Army mental health survey finds 13.6 percent of soldiers report acute stress in Iraq with rates rising from 12.5 percent on first tours to 18.4 percent on second tours. Lt Gen Kevin Kil ey notes deployments strain families and morale. The report informs decisions on expanding tours as Third Infantry Division returns for a third combat deployment.
