Preliminary hearing set for mother in slain boy case
Lisa Boss 34 of Remsen faces first degree murder kidnapping and child endangerment charges in the Feb 23 2000 death of her 10 year old son Timothy. The body was found in the family basement after her husband Donald Boss Jr. led authorities to it at a bond hearing. He was convicted last week of first degree murder and given life in prison. Prosecutors may pursue multiple acts of child endangerment if three separate abuses in 12 months are proven.

Iowa Supreme Court reversed Ronald Hobbs's bootlegging and liquor nuisance convictions after a beer tent along the RAGBRAI route in Kossuth County in 1999 was denied a license. Prosecutors showed riders receiving beer and tipping, but the court ruled no proof that tips were required.

Pregnant Iowa woman dies of bacterial meningitis
Sara Davis 24 of Charles City died at Sartori Memorial Hospital after flu like symptoms. Health officials treated all close contacts with preventive antibiotics and notified her employer and schools to prevent spread. Davis leaves husband and three children aged 5 3 and 10 months. Thirty two meningitis cases were reported in Iowa last year.
