Dem critics call for resignation of Iowa party chairman

Neal E. Smith, national president of the Young Democrats, urged Jake More to resign as Iowa Democratic chairman in a letter to the state central committee. He cites a "rut" in Iowa campaigns and contrasts gains in other states with Iowa’s election record since 1936. Smith denies seeking the chair, and accuses More and Clyde Herring of resisting party expansion and failure to use key issues. The notice then shifts to Cedar Rapids ordinances establishing a Meter Maintenance Man position with qualifications, duties, and a $362 monthly salary, approved December 16, 1954.
