In Idabel Oklahoma a Santa Claus figure won a $115 slot jackpot from nickel machines on Thursday. A rebuttal witness in the Edward J. O Connor gambling conspiracy case testified he saw Joe Gagen of Des Moines write and read a telegram allegedly forwarding $100 to O Connor. Zon Atwood said Gagen, a reputed collector in a statewide slot scheme, wrote the telegram in Waterloo in spring 1934. Atwood operated about 175 machines in eight Iowa counties in 1933 34 and a few in two counties in 1935. He said Gagen told him the telegram was to O Connor.
