Cedar Rapids council hires second lobbying firm
The Cedar Rapids City Council voted eight to one to hire a second statehouse lobbying firm, Avenson Oakley and Cope Consulting, for 35000 to supplement L L Murphy Consulting. Mayor Corbett touted a strong return on investment from lobbying, while Chuck Wieneke questioned the move as unnecessary and criticized the method and costs. The report notes prior assistance from the Murphy firm and cites positive state I Jobs awards as context. In Hiawatha, the city accepted a donation of a high powered UHF radio system valued at 12000 with tower space worth 400 monthly to enhance city communications, compatible with the existing system.
