The Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington Iowa presents a live nativity with animals a live angel and a 45 minute performance. The show uses taped dialogue while actors mime lines and the angel is suspended and raised by winch. The event draws hundreds and has expanded to a second Saturday service.

Iowa man dies digging snow near Popejoy
Theodore Hartkopp, 79, collapsed from a heart attack while shoveling a path to free his pickup from a snowdrift. He was south of Popejoy en route to Williams when the accident occurred on a gravel road Friday.

Two Arrested in Linn County for Driving Drunk
Ronald D. Halstead, 41, of 1254 22nd Ave SW, was arrested at 3:26 a.m. in the 500 block of Sixth Avenue SE and charged with drunk driving, interfering with official acts, and driving left of center. Donald E. Newman, 62, of Toddville, was arrested at 7:42 p.m. in the 1800 block of Mount Vernon Road SE and charged with drunk driving and speeding.

Des Moines Man Awaiting Florida Hijacking Trial Transfer
A Des Moines man identified as Henry McMorris is actually Joseph Terron Bennett, 35, who hijacked a Chalks International Airlines seaplane to Cuba in 1972. Bennett will be transferred to Florida after FBI and fingerprint work confirmed his identity. he is held on a $1 million bond.
