Inflation challenge as 1979 outlook faces growth risk
Federal Reserve chair G William Miller warned that the strong late 1978 economy could complicate inflation control in 1979. He said inflation might fall only about 0.5 percentage point next year, with a possible 1 point drop the maximum, while OPEC price hikes add up to 0.4 point to inflation. Miller noted growth around 4 percent in late 1978 with an expected 3.75 percent annual gain, and warned the economy may still cool to 2-3 percent in 1979 amid anti inflation efforts.
