Plan 3-Man Board for Job Insurance in Iowa

A Des Moines subcommittee drafted final details for Iowa's unemployment compensation bill to be administered by a three member commission. Appointments by the governor would run six years at $5,000 annually, with two-thirds senate confirmation. The panel must be nonpartisan, full time, and refrain from political activity. First terms would be 2, 4, and 6 years with possible six year reappointment. Governor Clyde L. Herring expects the bill’s printed copy Sunday and indicated no changes anticipated, noting amendments can come during the regular session. The group has not decided if the commission will take over the state bureau of labor amid federal rules on unemployment benefits.
