Pope's Des Moines Visit Costs Drop to 875000
The Des Moines diocese says the pope’s Oct. 4 visit cost $875,000, down from $1 million, aided by less shuttle use and low medical and cleanup expenses. Donations, chiefly from Papal Sunday gifts across a 12 state area, fund the shortfall. Commemorative books and tapes will raise additional revenue, with $1 going to Living History Farms and the diocese from each $6 book.
