Candlelit Lane Christmas Display Lights Six Blocks

More than 1,000 candles will illuminate a six block lane in Cedar Rapids on Christmas night as a northeast neighborhood plans the display. Mrs. Ivan Mason coordinates the effort with residents lighting sacks weighted with sand at intervals of ten feet along First avenue to Twenty-second street NE then along B avenue to 27th street. A large electric star at the lane end faces down B avenue from the 27th street end, with all house lights out and only festive decorations glowing. Cars will enter from First avenue and dim lights to preserve the effect.

Advice covers selecting a healthy tree, keeping it outdoors until display, and maintaining water to prevent drying and fire hazards, including a borax boric acid spray.
