American Force Mars Task Force Near Mandalay in Burma
American infantry and artillery troops known as the Mars task force are fighting in north Burma near Mandalay. Advance elements are closer to Mandalay than any Allied forces in Burma. The unit, under Brig. Gen. John P. Willey, includes veterans from the Marauders and replacements from the India Burma theater.
