Fire damages Cedar Rapids church triggers day care displacement

A faulty high limit switch inside the furnace caused a fire at St. James United Methodist Church on Ellis Boulevard NW. Cedar Rapids firefighters contained the flames in the second floor furnace room with 25 to 30 people evacuated to buses and sent to schools. No injuries. smoke and attic damage reported. auxiliary furnace to be used temporarily.
