About 20 residents attended the first Linn County legislative town meeting at the Educational Service Center as five legislators discussed changes to Iowa gun and voting laws. Roberson urged repeal of part of the concealed weapons test, while others debated civil suits, battered-spouse protections, and open primaries.

Seven people were arrested on drunk driving charges late Friday into early Saturday in Linn County. Joe Schumacher, 30, a resident of 2917 Iowa Ave SE, was taken into custody at 8:30 p.m. on First Avenue SE and later charged with driving without a valid Iowa license. Stuart Schultz, 21, from Postville, was arrested at 11 p.m. Friday at Highway 150 and Fisher Street in Hiawatha and also charged with no valid Iowa license. Michael Hominghausen, 28, of 2508 Matthew Drive SW, was arrested at 1:04 a.m. Saturday at Highway 149 and Edgewood Road NW, with the added charge of failure to carry and display a license. Paul Barta, 24, of 1467 Wilson Ave SW, was arrested at 1:29 a.m. Saturday near Glass Road and Center Point Road NE. Mark Hewitt, 26, of 2006 K St SW, was arrested at 1:55 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of B Avenue NE and charged with disobeying a traffic signal. Robert Davidson, 36, of 339 11th St SW, arrested at 1:45 a.m. Saturday near Sixth Street and 19th Avenue SW for having defective windshield wipers. Curtis Davidson, 20, of Van Horne, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. Saturday about a mile west of Cedar Rapids on Highway 30.
Springfield area deputies arrested Tommy L. Miller 23 of 1803 Western Drive SW and James D. Hoard 21 of Fairfax on assault intoxication and interference with official acts charges after observing Hoard on a Springville street and attempting to question him. Miller allegedly struck a deputy. both were held at Linn County Jail and released on their own recognizance just before noon Saturday.
