The Daily Record reports high temperatures and overnight lows for several cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, and Seattle. An extended outlook calls for mostly cloudy to fair conditions, warmer days, and cooler nights with varied precipitation and a detailed list of local births, accidents, court actions, and funeral notices across Cedar Rapids, Marion, Anamosa, Vinton, and surrounding communities.
Kirkwood Community College board accepted Raymond Bender resignation as a laboratory instructor in the data processing department. The resignation becomes effective August 14, 1972. Other items on the agenda included routine reports and payment of bills.
Cedar Rapids postal officials announced Saturday hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the main post office and the First Street station in the old post office building. The stamp and parcel post windows normally close at noon on Saturdays.
The Iowa commerce commission ordered Northwestern Bell to raise business rates to pre June 1 levels, with the higher charge effective Feb. 1 to allow 30 days notice. Residential rates stay temporarily higher since Dec. 1. The ruling cites a failed show cause order from Oct. 5. Sound Inc of Cedar Rapids intervened, arguing the lower business rate harmed its business.
A complaint alleges the Perot group planned to take 100 percent control of the firm with no payment to owners and to delay SEC registration of 100,000 Electronic Data Systems shares. The case contends this would harm the firm’s capital position by several million dollars and prevent du Pont from selling the stock for a net gain of more than 3.5 million.

Joseph H. Huston, 81, of 320 Linden terrace SE, was treated by a private physician for minor leg and head injuries Thursday afternoon after a two car accident at Third avenue and Seventeenth street SE. Authorities said Huston at the scene.
A driver attempted a right turn from Blake boulevard SE onto Seventh street when his car was struck by a vehicle driven by John H. Frady of 508 Thirty-fourth Street NE traveling east on Third avenue SE. Huston was charged with failure to yield at a stop intersection.
Radio Pakistan says fighting raged near Shakargarh in the Sialkot sector with Indian forces claiming heavy losses in tanks and personnel. Indian spokesmen say a third day of tank battles occurred about 10 miles inside West Pakistan near Sialkot and that India occupied three more Pakistani posts in the Kargil range bringing claimed positions to 36. Lt. Gen. Candeth says Pakistan's military power is largely destroyed and India would have “completely broken his back” without the cease-fire. Separately, Pakistani raids killed three children and wounded 33, with US naval forces staying in the Bay of Bengal until the war ends and Americans in Pakistan are safe. Communist China pledges continued aid to Pakistan amid accusations by Pravda and New Times of Western collusion and aggression.
Deliberations centered on whether General Henderson made a genuine effort to discover facts about My Lai. Wondolowski argued he should have investigated despite not taking part, while Henderson claimed he was misled by subordinates and accepted a casualty figure of 128 Viet Cong and 20 to 28 civilians.
AMES The Iowa highway commission Friday awarded contracts for two more I 380 bridges in Cedar Rapids as part of a 15 million letting. Cramer Brothers Construction Co of Des Moines received about 568000 for the Wilson avenue and Twenty seventh avenue overhead spans. Work on the Wilson and Twenty seventh avenues overheads starts March 20. The commission also approved five secondary road contracts in Fayette county all for asphalt paving. R B Burch Inc Cedar Rapids won 995257 for relocation of highway 20 in Cedar Falls. Hallett Construction Co of Boone received 21 million for highway 30 around Ames. The rebid saved the state 186000 after last August’s delay.
Mark Saylor, 37, and Ronald L. Fabert, 25, of 1017 Fourth Ave SE, were arrested Thursday night on larceny charges. Formed information by Bulla Lambert alleged the theft of household and personal items valued at $219 from storage by a former landlord at 704 Seventh. They appeared in Marion Justice Vince Hart's court, pled not guilty, posted $100 bond each, and were released.
Mrs J W Preston died Friday in Waterloo. former Cedar Rapids resident. Survived by daughter Mrs Kenneth Reside and a grandchild. Services are pending.

Collinscooperate and Heiden describe three day unpaid vacation for about 3400 workers amid bargaining unit grievance. Company to compensate for roughly 275000 in lost wages. possible unfair labor practices complaint considered. Salaried staff to report. hourly and weekly workers to be paid for the Christmas holiday in their Dec 29 and Jan 6 checks.
Wilson-Sinclair Co will lay off about 200 workers at its Cedar Rapids beef operation and close the plant portion until further notice. Officials cited unsatisfactory performance in the cattle kill area and weak beef industry conditions as the reason, with no further explanation given.
A plant official cited weak beef demand and economic conditions as the cause. He said beef slaughter levels fell in 1971, leading to some weeks with fewer than the guaranteed 36 hours for employees. Production has remained lower this year than in the past.
Witnesses said Miss Gayle Annette Lenth and Mr Jensen quarreled over marriage plans before a shooting. Lenth, born November 14, 1942, was a Goss Co secretary for six years and a Wartburg College attendee. Surviving are her parents and brother Jim Lenth, with arrangements handled by Turner funeral home and Schultz funeral home in Monona.
The Pay Board said new contracts meeting conditions may grant up to 7 percent increases, exceeding the 5.5 percent rule by 1.5 percent. Exceptions apply if a tandem relationship exists or if workers’ raises since their last contract or over 36 months are below the national average, with the policy expiring March 31.
