Iowa City report says 19 year old James Musack faced a failure to report a personal injury accident charge dismissed after he personally reported the Nov. 28 crash to County Attorney William Tucker. Musack is paroled to Tucker on a separate assault charge.
Washington AP report notes Pennsylvania Power & Light and Westinghouse Electric halt a 108 million dollar joint reactor project. The move follows calls for more research and tests, ending plans for a 150,000 kilowatt homogeneous reactor, despite continued belief in its future promise.
U S District Judge Frank Johnson granted Alabama officials a hearing before ordering them to produce testimony to the Federal Civil Rights Commission. The ruling came Wednesday in Montgomery as authorities resisted compelled testimony.
Representatives O'Neill Keating and Dennison urged that Alford be asked to stand aside pending a thorough investigation after a report found fraud and irregularity in the election. Alford won as a write in candidate while Hays labeled himself a moderate on school integration. Minority members Davis and Jones joined the dissent.
Westminster pastor Rev. John P. Woods urged Coe College students to embrace revelation over rationalism and to dream like men. The Civic Development Association of Cedar Rapids owns a parking lot at Fourth Avenue and Second Street SE, not Fourth Street and First Avenue NE as The Gazette reported Tuesday. This is one of two lots owned by the CDA, a Retail Merchants bureau subsidiary. the second lot sits at A Avenue and Second Street NE.
Volume of Christmas mail in Cedar Rapids is ahead of last year with first class letters and cards running about 5 percent higher. The post office will stay open with retail stores until 9 p.m. Thursday for stamp and parcel post service only. Incoming parcel post is up 17 percent, while outgoing parcel post is about even. Postal officials urge customers to bundle mail with string to keep bundles intact. A theft of 13 heavy duty heater cords from the West Shoppers parking area was reported, worth more for their total value than individual cost.
In the Fadia inquest Chicago coroner and police arson unit revealed sneak smoking near the stairwell before the Our Lady of the Angels disaster on December 1. Investigators found evidence of delayed alarm and combustibles in the stairwell. two boys said they saw smokers between 2:20 and 2:30 p.m. but names could not be identified.
Western delegates said the Geneva conference on prevention of surprise attack will adjourn indefinitely after Thursday’s meeting. The talks are regarded as a failure.

A 19 year old Cedar Rapids woman says she was attacked from behind by a knife wielding man near Fifth Avenue and Fifth Street SE. He forced her into an alley between two garages, robbed her of purchases valued at sixteen dollars, and fled. He is described as mid twenties, about six feet tall, wearing glasses.
New York banks J P Morgan and Co and Guaranty Trust Co announce a merger to form Morgan Guaranty Trust Co of New York. The plan awaits approval from New York state banking officials and the Federal Reserve Board and must be approved by stockholders.
Mary Zenishek born March 12 1869 near Solon died Tuesday at her son Anthony Zenishek's home 629 Fifteenth Ave SW after eight years in Solon. Survived by three daughters two sons two sisters and a brother. Rosary prayers scheduled with local clergy ahead of funeral in Solon at St Marys church with burial in church cemetery.
Mrs Mary Alice Victorine of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday after a lingering illness. Born September 19 1892 in Sibley she was a life long Cedar Rapids resident and member of St Margaret s circle Immaculate Conception church. Surviving are her husband five sons four daughters three brothers two sisters and numerous relatives. The body is at Monahan Stewart s with calling after 1 Thursday. funeral arrangements to be announced later.
Mrs. Abe Levine aged 68 formerly of Cedar Rapids died in Des Moines at a daughter Dorothy Block’s home. Surviving son M. W. Rosen of 430 Longwood Drive NE Cedar Rapids. Services planned at the Orthodox synagogue shortly before noon Thursday.
