Judge Charles Penningroth fined three drivers a total of 1100 dollars for drunk driving in Linn County District Court. Robert L. Benn 30 of 624 German NW faced 500 dollars and costs for a second offense, Tranquilino Frank Romero 28 of Marion and R. E. Wood 50 of 1826 Third Ave SE each 300 dollars and costs for first offenses. Benn, who changed his plea to guilty, will pay 100 down and 50 monthly. Romero to pay 50 down and 25 monthly. Wood to pay unspecified monthly. All licenses were suspended. Benn may reapply after five months, Romero and Wood after 60 days.
The Brinkmann Insulation Company was awarded a 291.15 judgment Friday against Harold P. Freestone, Francis M. Freestone and the Bohemian Savings and Loan Association for remaining due on a house siding job after a 250 damage allowance for necessary repairs.
Henry M. Lindley and Ruby Lindley were awarded a judgment of 32.28 dollars Friday against M. A. Leoni doing business as the Modern Refrigeration. The ruling on the account suit found the plaintiffs valid on 75.22 dollars and the defendant valid on 107.50 dollars.
Gerald Chapel aged 32 of 614 Sixth Street SE was sent to Fort Madison Friday to begin a five year sentence for larceny. He had been sentenced November 7 and received a bench parole then, but was picked up to serve the sentence after violating parole terms.
Frank Cole posted a $1,000 bond in district court on Friday after being charged with desertion and abandonment of minor children. The bond and agreement to make support payments per a divorce decree dated July 25 led to his release.

Harold Greene, 62, of 303 Thirty-fourth Street NE, was in fair condition at St. Luke's hospital Saturday after a stepladder collapsed while he was installing a light at Merchants National Bank Friday around 4 pm. He sustained a forehead laceration needing two stitches and was transported by Ambulance Service.
In Knoxville a thief entered a vacant apartment on Friday and stole nothing but the kitchen sink. No other items were reported missing and no injuries were noted.

St Luke's hospital board will not rush a plan for its 147600 Ford Foundation gift. Hospital Supt Louis Blair said directors have several ideas and will study each expansion plan for hospital service and nursing education before a final decision. The executive committee praised Ford Foundation philanthropy and urged using the fund for facility expansion.
