Kirkwood board weighs changes to vocational education program
Kirkwood Community College may adopt changes to its vocational-technical division outlined in a concept paper by Dean Douglas Bolen. The proposal would require applied general education courses for all industrial division students and shift some leadership roles, prompting debates over job entry skills versus broader professional preparation. Derrell Lockhart, welding head, warns the plan could reduce his status and income while increasing costs and time for students.
