DES MOINES AP Trustees of the Town state library named Paul Dewitt of Sioux City as state law librarian to fill the vacancy caused by the death of A. J. Small who held the post for 41 years. Dewitt, 29, has practiced law in Sioux City and will take the position immediately.
Miss Kate A. Buckingham, 79, renowned art patron who built a $1,000,000 fountain in Grant Park as her brother’s memorial, died Tuesday after months of illness. Funeral services and burial will be held in Zanesville, Ohio.

Special to The Gazette. Fred W. Hoff man, about 60, yardmaster for the North Western railroad in Belle Plaine, was found dead in his car in his garage around 3 pm Wednesday. Coroner John R. Burrows said death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning from the motor. There will be no inquest. Hoff man, a Belle Plaine city council member from the Second ward and well known in railroad circles, had been in ill health recently.
London sent a stern note to Tokyo stressing the seriousness of the situation after attacks on foreign vessels.
