Allen Heald of Cedar Rapids testified before a Chicago congressional committee that he never was a Communist and knew NLRB lawyers as a discussion group, not a party cell. Heald, age 50, discussed meetings from 1938 to 1941 and said he later joined a Chicago group but did not learn any member’s name or confirm Communist ties. Heald previously ran for Congress as a Progressive and has ties to the National Lawyers Guild.
