Space heaters blamed for two fires in Cedar Rapids
Space heaters were blamed for two Cedar Rapids fires this morning. At 9:42 a.m. a semitrailer owned by Jensen Construction Co. caught fire on 12th Street and G Avenue NE due to oil ignited near a space heater. Damage stayed in the trailer and its contents. Shortly after 10 a.m. a garage belonging to Walter Arnold at 1219 Third St. SW burned, with damage confined to the interior and contents and only a minor dent to a pickup in the garage. The cause was a space heater igniting gasoline. Also noted is the 1896 birth date of James Jimmy Doolittle.
