Airlines weigh route cuts amid fuel shortage
WASLINGTON AP Seven airlings have risked CAB to drop entire service due to fuel shortage. Four carriers seek permission to suspend routes while promising to keep others, potentially ending regular air service in several communities mainly in the Northeast with some in Oklahoma and Ohio. CAB can require minimum service or substitute local or commuter carriers to serve affected towns. CAB Chairman Robert Timm warned some cities may lose all scheduled service, saying carriers might have to abandon markets to meet requirements.
