Regents Examine Budgets For Iowa Universities 1973-75
State Board of Regents proposes operating budgets totaling 182.85 million for 1973-74 and 195.65 million for 1974-75. Regents to review at meeting in Des Moines after interrupting Ames hearings. They seek 118.54 million and 129.92 million in state appropriations plus capital and bonding sums to fund campuses including UNI and ISU. Major goal is to raise salaries about 6.5 percent over two years to match Midwest peers and address UNI funding fairness amid workload growth. They also cut ISU Cooperative Extension base by 500 thousand and note federal funds may not sustain current extension levels. Presiding Regent Redeker says budgets reflect inflation and selective new programs.
